Spiritual connection with God is the essential foundation upon which emotional, relational, and physical well-being are built.


The foundation of human flourishing and the most basic of all human needs is God's love.

Unlike traditional models that prioritize physiological or material needs, this understanding emphasizes that spiritual connection with God is the essential foundation upon which emotional, relational, and physical well-being are built. 


If you visualize a pyramid, the base layer represents God-centered love and spiritual connection, providing a secure foundation for emotional and relational health, the second layer. Physiological needs, including nourishment and physical safety, occupy the third layer.  

At the apex is Christ-centered fulfillment—the highest expression of human life, realized in spiritual maturity, purposeful living, and bearing fruit for God’s glory.


Most people, however, do not reach this apex because their foundation rests on sand rather than rock. Without grounding in God’s love, emotional and relational health is unstable, physiological needs alone cannot sustain meaningful growth, and true flourishing remains elusive. 


This pyramid integrates empirical evidence, including Harlow’s research on attachment, with Christian theology, illustrating that love is the rock-solid foundation necessary for holistic well-being. By establishing spiritual security first, individuals are empowered to thrive emotionally, cognitively, physically, and spiritually, progressing toward Christ-centered fulfillment and a life that truly glorifies God.
